Weeks 1 & 2
I love this time; it is a quiet time for both the Mum and the puppies. We are with her 24/7 giving her the opportunity to relax and recover and form a strong bond with her puppies.
It is during this time that I work individually with the puppies with Early Neurological Stimulation(ENS) and Early Scent Introduction (ESI) This starts at day 3 until day 16. For ESI I put a different natural scent up to the nose of each puppy for a few seconds each day. (No chemicals or meat) This is introducing puppies to a scent in a controlled way which improves scenting ability in later in life. Improves confidence and stability as adults, dogs that are encouraged to scent have fewer behavioural issues .
Week 3 – The fun starts
This is the first week where we notice the puppies venturing further afield, even though it may well still be within the whelping box. It is an important time of socialisation and habituation. Their eyes have opened, they are hearing much more, and it is also a time where Mum is spending more and more time away from her pups.
This is the time where we introduce the sights and sounds of normal family life. They are learning about their social group, they recognise their Mum and us and the other animals within the household and it is a time for forming strong bonds.
The puppies are introduced to different items, floor textures, sounds, and household things like the TV, Radio, Vacuum etc.
They also have access to things above their eye line, items that move and make a noise, that are hard and soft, warm and cold.
Week 4 – Lets Play
This is when it really gets exciting and hard work! The puppies are starting to develop their play behaviour, starting to bark and growl, problem solve and learn about frustrations and disappointment. Mums have a normal habit of popping in the pen to see if everything is ok, the puppies latch on to feed and then she’s off, often dragging a few pups still attached to the teat! They are then deposited in an unfamiliar environment, steep learning curve!
We use this time to have individual interactions with each puppy, taking them away from their pen and siblings and introducing them to objects and handling while in a different environment. Often, we walk with them outside so they can experience the fresh air, sounds of the birds and wind etc.
They are provided with different toys, cardboard boxes (which they love) items to crawl under and over, tunnels and things that they cannot get hold of and that move away.
5. As much as possible, start to move the puppies as a litter around the house to different rooms with different noises, surfaces, activity levels (this will include the garden or patio – but always under supervision to avoid any accidents).
Week 5 - 7 – They are into everything!
The Science
These weeks are a crucial time, not only for the puppy’s brain development, but for their interactions with people. It is also a time where their natural fearfulness is formed by their environment.
If a particular puppy shows fear of a certain noise, then we will ensure that the noise is used a lot and becomes non-threatening for him. Similarly, if they are fearful of an object, then that object is used and placed in an around that puppy’s environment more often and paired with a treat, feeding or gentle and soothing contact from us.
During this period, we flood them with different people, different environments, different noises and we introduce different feeding tools such as, licki Mats, Kongs, metal bowls, plastic bowls, hand feeding and scatter feeding.

Puppy Information
I breed because I enjoy it. Breeding is occasional, one or maybe two litters in a year. All my parents are health tested. These tests can be seen on 'My Dogs' page. I only use health tested stud dogs.
My puppies are born in my home. Here they receive constant care and attention. A lot of time and effort is put into their early development , as my aim is to produce happy, healthy, confident puppies.
All my puppies are socialised using a 'Puppy Socialisation Plan'
At birth each puppy is identified using a coloured collar. This colour stays with them until they leave to go to their forever home. This ensures there is no mix up of any puppies, and that you receive the correct puppy. It is also important for me to carefully watch each individual puppy as it grows.
The puppies all receive regular handling and lots of it! They are health checked and weighed everyday .
The bitch is cared for extremely well, having a very healthy diet, giving her the best to provide for her pups .
All puppies are microchipped before going to their new homes.
New Owners of a Candyfloss Puppy:
Once pups are born and their forever homes have been chosen, a non-refundable deposit is required.
When the deposit is paid you will be invited to join my Candyfloss Cockapoo Facebook page. Here you can follow the progress of your puppy. I will provide photos, films and regular updates. You will also be able to keep in touch with others having a puppy from the same litter, and make links with those families of previous puppies from Candyfloss Cockapoos.
This is a closed/private group, only for people who have a Candyfloss Cockapoo puppy.

I encourage owners to ask any questions along the way, so all new owners can feel happy and confident about providing a home for their new family member.
It doesn’t end there, as I am always ready to chat about anything after your puppy /dog is part of your family.
